Monte Cassino Day trip This is a place that has and is a very important landmark for Italy the Abbey of Montecassino that  was built around 480 By St Bendict. Situated 80miles from Rome and can be reached easily from both naples and rome wanting to take a day trip. Also MonteCassino is where one of the most important battles of World War II was fought and many people where killed at the Battle of Rome and the Battle of Cassino many died on both sides and their are two important buriel grounds for the men and woman that lost their lives during the battle. Monte Cassino Abbey has been Destroyed 4 times in the past and has always been rebuilt to respect the architecture of the building. First destruction was in 581 during the period when the Lombards sacked the Monastery and destroyed it and the Monks all fled to Rome. Second time was the invasion of the Sareceno again they burnt the Abbey down.  Third time this time not at the hands of man but a natural Disaster the Earthquake of 1349 which Destroyed the Abbey. And the Forth and Final time was During the Battle of Rome in the 1940's a grim period of the 20th Century History World war II.
