Positano was also placed on the international map by John Steinbeck, the acclaimed Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction and literature. He wrote a long descriptive article for Harper's in 1953 where he wrote about the cool setting, the clean marble floors, the reflecting waters, the crystal sand on the seabed in positano and the sirens from Odyssey, which for him represented the town of Positano. Also he inspired and played a major part with the developing the tourism in the area.
